Determining the burning date of a CD-R

I investigated a bit on the net regarding "how to determine the burning date of a CD-R" but didn't find a proper solution that works (yet).
I'm pretty sure the date is stored somewhere - data forensic guys are able to get it.

This info would be very interesting - especially for CD-R issued by record companies.

Anyone any clue about that?

Tom

I've read that even the serial number of the burner is stored on the disc, so yes, there must be a way.
I don't know which program could do it.
You can try this but I think you better make some tests to be sure if it's correct.

Thanks for the hint Shinji - will try and post here.

This is an interesting area - I read some articles recently where data forensic guys were getting a lot of info of burned CDs done for stealing info from companies.

Everything's there on a burned CD-R - date, time, computer-id, who was logged on, etc. Even the path of the copied file!
But this info seems to be available only with special software not meant for the general public ;)

Shinji, doesn't work - shows standard date 1.1.1995.

Hi Tom!

You could try this http://www.heise.de/download/cdinfo-1170321.html
or this http://www.pcwelt.de/downloads/CD-R-Identifier-566627.html

Also there might be a chance to click on the different CD Info Tools (CD Info, CD Speed ...) within Nero Burning Rom. If I remember right there was a tool which shows the date on which the session on the CD was closed.

CD-R-Identifier reads the ATIP only, there is no data written there when you burn on the disc.

The sessions indicator in NERO only works if the date is pre defined at time of burning, standard is 1-1-95 hence the date shown in windows.

CD-info can not identify a cd-r audio disc as anything else as an audio disc (cd rom drive reads the lead-in and CD-info displays the content according to the TOC)

Media-info works the same way as CD-info.

Is it possible to create an ISO-image and read/see the lead-in?
