Ultravox: Brilliant

I have to say I'm very curious...

Press release:

U L T R A V O X
‘BRILLIANT’

the brand new studio album from
Midge Ure / Billy Currie / Chris Cross / Warren Cann

Release: May 28th on EMI Records

EMI are proud to announce the return of Ultravox with their first studio album in 28 years. Following on from the sold-out Return To Eden reformation shows in 2009, the classic Ultravox line-up has recorded a 12-track collection of brand new songs which will be released on May 28th ahead of a full UK tour in September and October.

Dramatic, passionate and truly epic in scale and sound, ‘Brilliant’ is not only a prescient reminder of how great this reborn band are, but an exciting and vital addition to an extraordinary catalogue of music which today sounds more current and influential than ever.

Emerging from the new wave and electro scenes of the late 70’s, Ultravox fashioned a form of electronic rock music that was uniquely powerful and delivered massive hits through the 1980’s such as ‘Hymn’, ‘Dancing With Tears In My Eyes’, ‘The Voice’, ‘Reap The Wild Wind’, ‘Love’s Great Adventure’, ‘We Came To Dance’ and of course the timeless and atmospheric ‘Vienna’.

‘Brilliant’ sees Ultravox expanding their classic sonic template and reminding us of their strength as songwriters of the highest calibre. Full details of the album will be revealed soon along with the thirteen-date tour they will be embarking on later this year.

The tracklisting for ‘Brilliant’ is as follows:

Live Again
Flow
Brilliant
The Change
Rise
Remembering
Hello
This One
Fall
Let It Lie

hallo,

I just listened an ULTRAVOX song *Brilliant*, which i found pretty nice and positive.
I just have a big wonder...why they dissapeared for 28 whole years?
I didnt searched anything to read, so i think it's better to learn from here.

The story is - please correct me if I'm wrong - that it all started with the departure of Warren Cann in 1985 (I think their last gig together was Live Aid).
He was very unhappy with the direction of the new album which should become U-VOX in 1986.
U-VOX was only recorded as a 3-piece - with additional musicians though - but the album was a total flop.

As Midge Ure had a very succesful debut album one year before he decided to concentrate on his solo career and quit the band.

With the recent remasters (great ones) and the band's 30 year anniversary of the 2nd incarnation (Midge Ure replacing John Foxx) it was decided to team up again for a few gigs which were all a huge success with a CD/DVD release called RETURN TO EDEN.
As they obviously have fun together again they did BRILLIANT.

Tom

You should really explore their music resp. their albums.
Vienna, Rage In Eden, Quartet and Lament are great pop albums. Very recommended!

i may recommend midge ure's solo albums too...
especially first one, The Gift is quiet nice...

two talented musicans played at this album, Level 42's bass vizard Mark King and from Big Country, drummer Mark Brzezicki...

@Recoil19
@Sey_a

The most that im thinking is that all this nice music was *under my skin, but out of my hands* (see: Tears for fears lyric stolen), i mean i had all this music inside my house and family, and i never cared since 90"s and after.
My brother(as i have said again) was big Fan of this *holy romantic era* of 80's Pop, and all these bands mentioned here, and outhere in the net, was our house *bread*. But i didnt cared and i didnt wanted to listen back then. Im now 1000% sure, that all people lived this nice *scene* back then of pure analog music and movement*, were if not very lucky, at least blessed.

PS: I had listen VIENNA first only for it's nice tittle, and also for the front cover that i had read was the Piano founder(??) or something similar. And also that the band did paid all video expenses them selves. Another example that pain & suffering (and faith is) one way ticket for success.

Thanks for the info.

Very nice sleeve! I wonder if Peter Saville did it like most of their 80s stuff.

realy interesting...

music effect people very differently, for sure, which is normal...
we all different and our emotions are different too...

why im saying this...?

cause, Ultravox sound is always dark for me...
if i compare your "sunny" comment, they are usually "cloudy or grey" for me...

;)

..i suppose it depends on people's mood in time?....i could say for me Diary of Dreams are dark, or Cure's Pornography was Dark as Hell, but this song, just give me the thought of *i wanna smile*. and Feel happy, this is *sunny*...Vienna was Dark.....as i said i havent heard many of Ultravox, to have a complete opinion.Perhaps listening much more, have another point of view.

I think I found the right word/text to describe the feeling:

*It increases the power of inner strength*....as i used to say since teeneger. The same feeling i have these last weeks
when i listen to this Brilliant song, couple of others, along with the Austrian super group mind.in.a.box.
